Before she could make the move, she needed the home to work for her life: open, welcoming, age-in-place ready, and full of the farmhouse warmth she had always envisioned.

The design strategy centered on one guiding principle: remove what was blocking the light, the views, and the life of the home. By relocating the fireplace, reconfiguring the kitchen, raising the primary bathroom floor, and relocating the laundry, the team unlocked a fluid, open-concept layout that celebrates the farm views in every direction. Every material choice, from the blue cabinetry echoing the Oregon sky to the weathered-brown island evoking tree bark, was drawn directly from the nature just beyond the windows.
The oversized 110" x 56" island now anchors the open-concept great room, with panel-ready appliances, refrigerator and freezer drawers, and a built-in microwave keeping every surface clean and uninterrupted, so nothing competes with the farmhouse views Marni fell in love with.
The sunken tub/shower was demolished and the floor was built up to a zero-threshold entry, creating a curbless shower with 36" openings, blocking for future grab bars, and a freestanding tub positioned beneath the original skylights, giving Marni a beautiful, light-filled sanctuary she can live in for decades.
Where the old fireplace once stood, a walk-in pantry now offers custom shelving and butcher block counters, enclosed by a salvaged barn door from the property, its original etched glass panel depicting the surrounding farm, refinished and repurposed into a one of a kind feature.
The new gas fireplace is framed by large-format textured tile that reads as clean white concrete from across the room, then reveals a quietly stunning indented palm pattern the moment you step closer, giving the heart of the great room a sense of discovery.
Removing the diagonal fireplace opened the kitchen, dining room, and living room into one connected, light-filled space with clear sightlines to the farm's north and south views.
Walls and closets were removed to create a more welcoming arrival, with a built-in bench and coat hooks.
A dedicated dining space now features a farmhouse table and custom cabinetry that serves as a combined coffee and cocktail bar.
Entry walls are adorned with fruit tree wallpaper in spring green, paired with painted shiplap, while the original stone fireplace in the den was painted to match.
A striking backsplash anchors the kitchen, while the bar cabinets in the adjoining dining room pick up the theme with their own glossy geometric tile.
Matte white fixtures are paired with weathered brick-like accent tile for a quietly bold moment.
Waterproof, dimensionally stable, and with a realistic wood appearance, the flooring was chosen specifically to hold up to life on a farm with four dogs.
The reconfigured layout carved out a 37" x 69" water closet for added privacy.
Designed with remote work and well-being in mind, a secluded home office gives Marni a quiet retreat within her own home.
Relocated from a cramped closet to a full, functional room, the new laundry space features patterned encaustic-style floor tile, a stacked washer and dryer, folding surface, cleaning storage, and a dedicated dog station with built-in water bowls featuring filtered faucets and automatic feeder stations
