Steve Klingerman spent nearly twenty years in the remodeling industry in North Carolina before relocating to Portland, Oregon in 2006. He founded Tyler Hart Enterprises, the company behind THE Remodel Group, in 2007, bringing with him a deep understanding of what separates a smooth remodeling experience from a frustrating one.
That experience shaped everything about how TRG operates today. Steve built this company around a simple belief: that the process of remodeling your home should be as well-designed as the finished space. Every system, every hire, and every client interaction reflects that standard.
We've spent nearly 20 years refining how a remodel should work. The result is a clear, six-step process that protects your investment, eliminates surprises, and keeps you confident from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.
We start with a short phone call to learn about your vision, timeline, and investment expectations. There’s no pressure and no obligation. If we’re a great fit, we’ll schedule a time to come see your space. If we’re not, we’ll tell you honestly and point you in the right direction. Either way, you’ll leave the call with more clarity than you started with.
We visit your home to understand how you live, what’s not working, and what your dream looks like. We encourage all decision-makers to be present so everyone is on the same page from the start. While detailed measurements come later at the Meet & Measure, we do perform a LiDAR scan during this visit so our early feasibility and investment range discussion is grounded in real data — giving you a realistic sense of what’s possible before you commit to design.
We present a detailed Project Development Agreement that outlines exactly what your project involves, how we work, and what to expect along the way, along with a preliminary cost range and scope options designed to address your budget and priorities. A design retainer kicks things off to begin the design phase — and it’s fully credited back to your construction contract when you decide to move forward. This is where the partnership officially begins.
Our in-house designer creates conceptual drawings, renderings, and mood boards so you can see your possibilities before any decisions are locked in. We’d rather you fall in love with a direction than guess at it. This phase is all about making sure we fully understand your vision and give you the chance to refine it before we go deeper.
We take your chosen direction and finish it completely — refined renderings, full material selections, detailed specifications, and trade walkthroughs with every subcontractor. By the end of this phase, you’ll have a fixed-price contract you can count on. No guessing, no vague estimates. Just a real number for a fully designed project.
Once the contract is signed, we apply for permits, schedule our team, and order materials. We don’t break ground until everything is ready to go — which means your project runs on a real schedule. Your dedicated Project Director is with you every step of the way, keeping you informed with daily updates and photos through your private client portal. When we hand back your keys, the only thing left to do is enjoy it.

Steve Klingerman:
Owner and Project Director of THE Remodel Group – Started THE Remodel Group 2007
Steve loves helping clients bring their dream spaces to life while building a business he’s passionate about. He entered the design-build industry unexpectedly, starting with insurance repair and managing a construction team, which eventually evolved into owning his own company focused on design-build remodeling.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys traveling, focusing on health and fitness, and spending time with family. Some of his favorite Portland-area spots include Fogo de Chao, Ruth’s Chris, the Melting Pot, and the waterfront. At home, he shares life with his wife and two dogs: Holden, a black-and-white Goldendoodle, and Sierra Sky, an Aussie Doodle.
Michael Hull:
Project Director – Joined TRG in 2016.
Michael thrives on the variety and challenge of design-build, where no two days are ever the same. As Construction Director, he oversees job strategy, scheduling, quality control, inspections, and regular client and project manager check-ins. As Project Director, he meets with potential clients, conducts site visits, leads projects from initial design through final build, and ensures every detail is executed smoothly.
He started in construction at 18, learning every step of building custom homes from foundation to paint. After earning a degree in architectural engineering, Michael moved into project management and now brings over a decade of experience to guiding clients through their remodeling journeys. He enjoys helping clients achieve their goals, building strong relationships with field crews and subcontractors, and seeing projects through from start to finish.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys seasonal outdoor activities, home improvement projects, and staying active at the gym.
Matt McQueen:
Project Director – Joined TRG in 2026
Matt brings more than 28 years of remodeling experience and a deep passion for thoughtful design. He approaches each project with a focus on the human experience, creating spaces that are not only beautiful, but functional and carefully crafted for the people who use them every day. From guiding projects through the construction process to building strong relationships with clients, he enjoys seeing a vision come together and the smiles that follow a successful transformation.
His path into remodeling began with a love of art, architecture, and engineering. While earning a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Oregon, he discovered a passion for working three-dimensionally and thinking through form and space. After gaining experience as a project manager in New York City and Seattle, he later returned to Portland and ran his own remodeling business for 15 years, completing hundreds of successful projects along the way.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with family, taking walks with his wife, visiting the Oregon coast, cooking, and woodworking. Some of his favorite Portland-area spots include the iconic St. Johns Bridge, Powell’s Books, Forest Park, the Keller Auditorium, and exploring the wineries of the Tualatin Valley, though he’ll never pass up a piping hot bowl of pho.
At home, he shares life with two very spoiled silver tabby cats: Jinx, a shy but sweet companion, and Willy Nelson, a laid-back socialite who seems to be friends with everyone.
Kaitlyn Danna:
Designer – Joined TRG in 2021
Kaitlyn is our talented designer, working closely with clients to bring their dream spaces to life. From crafting thoughtful layouts and selecting materials to communicating design goals with the team and overseeing installations, she ensures every project reflects the client’s vision. She also stays current with industry trends through showroom visits, vendor relationships, and contributing to TRG’s marketing and social media.
What Kaitlyn loves most about her role is seeing her clients’ reactions as the finishing touches come together — there’s nothing better than a happy client. She began her path in design-build remodeling after college, following experience in a custom furniture showroom in Portland and a recommendation from a professional colleague to join TRG.
When she’s not designing, Kaitlyn enjoys spending time outdoors or visiting Disneyland for a little extra magic. She shares her adventures with Buttercup, her Maltese-Yorkie mix, whose sassy personality often steals the spotlight on client calls.
Michael Hammack
Office & Marketing Coordinator – Joined TRG in 2025
Michael enjoys the variety and challenge of his role, where no two days are the same, and values working with a team of talented and supportive colleagues. He entered the design-build industry after being presented with an opportunity to pivot into it, excited by the chance to learn new skills and build on those he already had.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys camping, dining out with his wife, and hosting friends for dinner parties and fire pits. Some of his favorite Portland-area spots include Kay’s Bar & Mediterranean Exploration Company. At home, he and his wife share life with Noel, their crazy Pitt bull terrier pup.
Erich Lantz:
Project Manager – Joined TRG
As TRG’s Project Manager, Erich is TRG’s Lead Carpenter, oversees job strategy, scheduling, quality control, inspections, and regular project manager check-ins. He also communicates directly with clients, keeping them informed on project progress and answering questions along the way.
What Erich enjoys most is turning a design into reality — figuring out the nuts and bolts to transform a space and solving the puzzles that come with each project. He also values the relationships he builds with clients, noting that every customer he has worked with has been a pleasure to collaborate with, thanks to TRG’s careful selection of projects.
His construction journey began at 17 building homes, and he spent 24 years in new construction while also building theater sets. After running a remodeling company and building log homes for several years, he moved to Portland to be near his first grandchild and connected with TRG shortly after.
Outside of work, Erich enjoys playing with his grandson, spending time with his wife and exploring Portland’s local spots. Some of his favorites include The Tin Shed for breakfast and brunch, Henry Higgins Boiled Bagels, Forest Park with its miles of scenic trails, and Mt. Tabor Park with its beautiful dog park.
Erich and his wife share their home with three beloved pets: Henry, an 8-year-old Great Pyrenees with a calm, independent nature, and Jimmy, an 18-year-old Norwegian Forest rescue cat known for his loving personality, and Maine, a 1-year-old Coon cat.
Taylor Majors:
Painting Specialist – Joined TRG in 2022.
Taylor brings a multi-trade approach to TRG, drawing on a lifetime in construction inspired by his stepdad, a stucco, lath, and plaster contractor. As our interior and exterior painting specialist, Taylor handles stucco and drywall repairs, and a little bit of everything else as jobs progress. He moved to Portland from California when his wife accepted a job here, and joined TRG for the opportunity to work on a variety of trades throughout each project.
Outside of work, Taylor enjoys exploring Portland’s food scene, with favorites including 808 Grinds in Beaverton, Pizza Kat on Burnside, and the Beaverton food cart pod. He also likes visiting Guardian Games for miniatures and painting supplies, and loves outdoor adventures, with Silver Falls being a standout favorite. At home, he parents Rocky, a playful and goofy sealed brindle Boxer.
Dayna Tracy:
Director of Operations – Joined TRG in 2017.
Dayna loves the variety and challenge that comes with design-build. No two days are the same, and she enjoys collaborating with every division of the team, as well as working closely with clients. Growing up in a home that was constantly being remodeled and later working in commercial construction marketing in Kansas City sparked her passion for this industry. She’s drawn to the transformative nature of remodeling — not just how it changes the physical space, but how it changes the way people live in that space.
Outside of work, Dayna likes to be outdoors hiking, biking, and gardening. She enjoys reading, exploring local art, music, and theater, and spending time with family. Her favorite Portland-area spot is the Central Library downtown.
Dayna and her family also have a stray calico they adopted named Callie — who thinks she is a dog, greets Dayna every time she gets home, and prefers to be outside unless it’s cold.
